EduPop! will explore various representations of teachers and educators as they appear in media: novels, movies, television shows, music, etc. Some representations are wonderful, some terrible but all are presented for fun!
Obi Wan Kenobi
The Star Wars Saga
1978 – present
With the release of The Rise of Skywalker only weeks away, it seems appropriate to spend an edition or two of Edupop! on Star Wars teachers, good and bad. Many would argue that old Ben Kenobi is not a great teacher. After all, his star pupil broke way bad and threatened the safety of the galaxy. He also gave questionable answers about the nature of truth and of friendship. He seemed to forget things. He may have set Luke Skywalker up to be a even worse teacher than he.
But I cannot help but love him. I cannot help but admire him. He devoted his life to protect a young man who, in the end, was the hope for the galaxy. That says something. It remains to be seen (though inquiring minds will see in a week or so) how the entire Obi Wan Kenobi saga played out… Rise of Skywalker will let us know for sure.
