EduPop! – Doctor Henry Jones, Jr.

EduPop! will explore various representations of teachers and educators as they appear in media: novels, movies, television shows, music, etc. Some representations are wonderful, some terrible but all are presented for fun!

Indiana Jones
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Paramount Pictures – 1981

Doctor Henry Jones, Jr. (better known as Indiana) has something all teachers should possess: a love of his subject matter. That he is expert in it is obvious. That he loves it is shown in his real and true desire to put his life on the line in pursuing and preserving it.

Beyond his out-of-the-classroom extracurriculars, Doctor Jones does his time as an instructor as evidenced by the clip above and, though he should have not be quite as flummoxed by the young woman in the front row (it’s usually Jones himself who is not playing fair) as he seems to be, his chalkboard writing is spot on.

Adventurer. Teacher. Subject matter lover. We in the education business could all use a little more Dr. Jones in us.
