As far as dedicated, talented and brilliant teachers go, one could do far worse than Jane Eyre. Utterly devoted, highly skilled and completely dependable, Ms. Eyre is the kind of teacher we all wish our children have. Frankly, we wish we had had a teacher like her, too.

She has a much in vogue characteristic that current wisdom suggests children need to learn: grit. Undaunted by the challenges life throws at her, Jane perseveres in a novel and a plot that seems designed to break her.

She does not break.

Rather she imparts the lessons of a difficult life to her pupils along with wisdom and knowledge.

Too often dismissed as half of a romance, Jane Eyre is a strong teacher and one whose steely determination should be admired.
