EduPop! – Teach Your Children

EduPop! will explore various representations of teachers and educators as they appear in media: novels, movies, television shows, music, etc. Some representations are wonderful, some terrible but all are presented for fun!

Teach Your Children
Crosby, Stills and Nash
from the album Deja Vu – 1970

As far as songs about education go, Teach Your Children has to approach the gold standard. Yes, it is about parents and children primarily, but it could easily be read as a song about teachers and their pupils.

The song begins with advice that teachers need to have a code and to be true to themselves. What could be better advice than that? Teachers ought to know who they are and why they are doing what they are doing. Further, the song goes on to speak about the love between teacher and student. It is empowering to both teacher and student, praises the magic of sharing knowledge and has a perfect wistfulness about it.

Teach your children well, indeed!
